Did you know that there is a way to use one single key to open all the doors of your properties?

Keyed-alike systems are the best solution to get rid of huge bunches of keys and not compromise on security.

Let's find out what they are and why they can give a lot of benefits in your home.

What are keyed-alike systems

A keyed-alike system (or KA system) is a number of different cylinders that can be opened using the same key, as they all have the same encryption.

This allows, for example, the entrance door, garage door, letterbox, pedestrian gate, etc. to be opened with a single key.

Having a key that opens all the locks in your home is certainly a practical choice that frees you from the clutter of bulky keyrings and the frustration of having to waste time looking for the right one each time.

It is also a safe choice, provided you always use high security cylinders certified to the highest security standards and designed for this type of application (such as Mottura's Champions® Euro-profile cylinders).

Keyed-alike systems in homes

Whether you have a detached house or a flat in a block of flats, KA systems can be adapted to suit all different needs.

If you live in a detached or a semi-detached house, with total and exclusive control of all entrances, lockers, garages and storages, you will need to install platforms that have all the cylinders and devices required for each type of locking.

For example, Champions® cylinders are equipped with double key/key and key/knob cylinders for the entrance door, half cylinders for the cellar door and for garage (where there is no need for locking from the inside), a cam-lock for the mailbox, rim-locks for the gates, and padlocks for storages.

In the case of a multi-residential building, as a block of flats, where private and common spaces with shared access (such as the main door, boiler rooms and communal lounges) cohexist, it is possible to implement individual keyed-alike systems for each flat within a master key system (MK system) with common cylinders, which can be opened with the keys of each apartment owner (read more about master key systems on this page).
